Habits oro-genital sex such as fellatio or cunnilingus should be avoided in the case of an outbreak because they can turn into cold sores and genital herpes vice versa. In addition, physical contact with someone carrying the virus 3 days before or after the outbreak of herpes could transmit the virus. It must then avoid any physical contact with these people at the onset.

There is no effective against herpes, but prevention is the best level in such infections. In the case of a person carries the virus, prevention prevents recurrence or the severity of injuries. It is strongly recommended to use a condom during sex with someone with genital herpes, avoid kissing or touching in the case of cold sores and prolonged sun exposure. In addition, for pregnant women, if the birth takes place in a period of herpes outbreak, it is preferable to opt for a caesarean section to prevent neonatal herpes dangerous for newborns. Regarding the vaccine, researchers have found ways to reduce the risk but do not protect 100% against this disease. Still, there tablets and creams based acyclovir to prevent herpes outbreaks, reduce their frequency, limiting the infected area or the seriousness of the skin burn.
