Gum Infection And The Disease Linked To It

The possible association of gum disease or infections of the gums to certain medical condition are being studied by dental researchers. New studies have been emerging stating that gum disease may increase the risk for heart disease and clogged arteries. It is also believed that the existence of heart disease can be worsen by a gum infection. Gum disease can also place an individual at risk for stroke that is caused by blocked arteries. When a woman who has gum disease during pregnancy period is more likely to deliver a low-birth weight baby, prone to pre-term birth. And infants may be linked to maternal gum infection. Diabetic people will have difficulties in controlling the level of their blood sugar when they have periodontal disease and this can also cause bacteria from the oral cavity to reach the lungs causing lung infections or even worsening the existing lung conditions.
