Eliminating Your Gum Infection
Since there are a variety of bacteria that can cause periodontitis, and these bacteria are often resistant to common antibiotics, it is frequently helpful to have a sample of the bacteria from under the antibiotics would be most effective at eliminating the disease causing bacteria. Antibiotics can be given in an oral systemic dose or can also be placed directly into the gum pocket for a more targeted attack. As time goes on the pockets get deeper, trap even more plaque and tartar and gum infection takes place. Over time gingivitis can develop into chronic (long term) periodontitis, in which the jaw bone can become infected and damaged, causing teeth to loosen or fall out. In order to avoid the further damage you will need to have great home care habits. Where before you may have been able to get away without flossing daily, this habit now takes on great importance.
